Phil Belanger

Drums / Percussion

Phil Belanger was born and raised in Vancouver and has developed a strong musical connection to just about every style of music through his many years of performing, recording, and teaching. Starting out playing with rock bands in high school, he then received his Bachelor of Music degree from UBC studying both percussion and guitar. Then followed several years of work in clubs, theatres and cruise ships, and further studies in New York, and Cuba.

Phil has since maintained a busy and very diverse career performing with such artists as the Vancouver Symphony and Opera Orchestras, CBC radio and television, the Arts Club Theatre, many choirs, world music groups such as Orquestra Goma Dura, Mimosa, Shango Ashe, Alma Libre, Fantazea, Tzimmes, jazz artists Karin Plato, Daryl Jahnke, Tom Arntzen, and numerous rock, blues, and R&B groups. Beginning with his first professional teaching job at the legendary “Drums Only” store, Phil continues to enjoy passing on his knowledge and experience to students, tailoring the lessons to each individual’s interests through the use of recorded music, books and foundational skills development.
