Our Teachers

Mike Devison has been playing drums for 40 years and has been teaching professionally for over 20 years. He is a certified YAMAHA drum instructor and his students have won scholarships in the YAMAHA Music Education program. He has performed on drums and percussion at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Mission Folk Festival, and the Harrison Arts Festival. His performing background includes rock, jazz, improvisational and orchestral groups.

Originally from Nova Scotia, Mike completed a Degree in Jazz with Honours and a Diploma in Jazz Studies at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S. He has studied drumming with Ed Soph and Paul DeLong. He is a past winner of the Pearl Drummer’s Showdown drumming competition.

He has performed, recorded, and toured across Canada and in the U.S. with artists such as Jerry Doucette, E A Sports NHL ’98, Terry Jacks, Reg Schwager, World Jive Big Band, Tim Gerwing, Stone Travis, Active Pass, Soundwaves Orchestra and the J. Burgess Band.
